Go to Work, Disney!
June 15, 2016
Disney is raking in the cash this summer with The Jungle Book still out in theaters, its Marvel properties like Captain America: Civil War, and Finding Dory about to take off. Here is another one to add to it all. The first full trailer for Pete’s Dragon is now here. In cinemas August 12th, the film is an update of the 1970s kids classic. Starring popular movie mom Bryce Dallas Howard, this trailer shows one of my favorites, Karl Urban (Star Trek), leading a charge against said dragon. Looks like it could be a nice family flick, hopefully better than The Good Dinosaur.

Final Countdown to Fishes
June 10, 2016
It is the final countdown as it is a week away from Disney/Pixar’s new film Finding Dory hitting theaters in the US on Friday, June 17th. Here in the UK we will have to wait until July 29th! A travesty that it is not an international release date, but here is the full length trailer to get us going.

The Wild Man Returns

Another trailer has been released for Warner Brothers’ upcoming film The Legend of Tarzan. Impressive Swedish hunk Alexander Skarsgard (HBO’s True Blood and Diary of a Teenage Girl) plays Tarzan opposite Jane played by Australian actress Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street and the upcoming Suicide Squad). Lots of rain and violence await the couple who are directed by David Yates and joined by Christoph Waltz and Djimon Hounsou. Looking a little Jungle Book esq we shall see if gets people to the cinema on July 1 in the US and July 8 in the UK. Regardless the trailer is a bit man scrumptious!

The first teaser trailer for the live action Disney version of Beauty and the Beast is here! Starring Emma Watson as Belle this new film will join Cinderella and The Jungle Book as Disney works through its animated catalogue including alternative stories like Maleficent. The cast is extensive and from this first look it seems mood and music are at the forefront of Beauty and the Beast. The film will include music from composer Alan Menken along with Menken’s original songs he wrote with lyricist Howard Ashman. Two more songs will be added, but the film down not release until March 17, 2017 so that could still change. Looks to be the first full musical for Disney so get ready!

With JJ Abrams deep in Star Wars territory now, Justin Lin has directed the next Star Trek film. Lin helmed Fast & Furious 6 and with Star Trek Beyond will hopefully bring a new spin on very well known characters. Joining the younger crew is Idris Elba in full alien make-up and Sofia Boutella as the alien woman seen in the trailer. No red flags for me, pretty standard second trailer, but Leonard Nimoy will be missed. The film is out July 22.

The second international trailer has been released for the upcoming film The Neon Demon, which releases July 8. Written and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn who helmed the brilliant Drive, the film’s starlet is Elle Fanning who plays an up and coming model. The trailer is dynamite, cannot wait for this one!

The first trailer has arrived from 20th Century Fox for their adaptation of the video game Assassin’s Creed. Directed by Australian Justin Kurzel the film stars his Macbeth team of Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Hitting theaters in December of this year, the trailer gets a pulsing overcoat of sound that includes a track from Kanye West. Check it out!

Single Mom Fever

Out in the US on July 29 and in the UK on August 19, the first trailer for the new comedy Bad Moms has dropped. Starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Christina Applegate and Kathryn Hahn it is basically revenge of the non cardigan-set mothers. Written and directed by the Hangover team of Jon Lucas and Scott Moore the trailer begs a few questions. Where are the dads? Are we still confined to presenting motherhood as either good or bad? Success or failure? Isn’t parenting a process? This seems thin. My ultimate takeaway is that Kathryn Hahn continues to be an amazing comedian and you should watch all of her films now!

Taking pastiche and nostalgia to the extreme here is the new trailer for the upcoming flick The Nice Guys. A two handler with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling the film is written and directed by Shane Black. This trailer gets a heavy 1970s retro treatment and is all around fabulous. The film hits theaters May 20.
